Question

When we like someone and want to marry, then is it only 'taqdeer' that decides that this marriage can be done? Or is it the effort of 'dua' that can make it possible specially when you like someone?

Answer

As for the question regarding taqdeer and dua, this world is Darul-Asbaab,a world of avenues and sources. Amongst many sources one of them is doing dua. Dua is categorized under taqdeer. Taqdeer has already been written but if a person does dua for a certain wish, like marriage, it will be accepted but only with the condition that Allah subhana wa tala wants to accept it. A mere worldly example of this is that in this world when we get sick we go to the doctor and get medication to cure the sickness. After taking the medication for the set amount of time, sometimes we find that the medication did not work at all, while at other times the medication works perfectly well. In both cases we have to remember that it was in our taqdeer to get sick, hence we got sick. We took the medication which was a source of us getting better; either we got better or we didn't both of which are determined by the will of Allah. Likewise if a person is written in your taqdeer to be your spouse and your wish is to marry someone else, you can do dua and if Allah wishes then you will get what you want; but at the same time if Allah does not wish to accept what you want (for reasons which we may or may not understand), then that which is written in your taqdeer will be put into impact. Furthermore, a point worthy of notice is that we show our humbleness through doing dua and Allah subhana watala loves his creations when they show humbleness. We show our dependency on Allah subhana watala and show Allah that we truly are nothing and we cannot make anything happen until it is the will of our Allah. Also, unlike anyone of this world, Allah tala gets upset when we do not ask for our needs from Allah subhana watala and loves it when we ask for everything from a shoe lace to Allah tala's closeness. We do dua that Allah subhana wa tala accepts your wishes and grants you happiness inshAllah.

And Allah knows best.
