Having affection toward opposite gender before marriage in Islam

Question

Is it prohibited in Islam to like someone and love?

Answer

Having a love marriage is permissible in Islam, however one should not try to create or encourage such relationships as in the process one will be sinful. The reason it has been prohibited is the possibility of one doing many sins such as looking at the opposite gender, talking to them, going out with them etc. all of which are considered forms of lower levels of zina.
